Sigma Delta Chi Awards

I am not sure how many of you are members of the Society of Professional Journalists. It is a great organization. Here is information on their upcoming awards.

The Sigma Delta Chi Awards are among the premiere prizes in journalism. They are unique because they recognize achievement in all forms of journalism: print, television, radio, art, magazines, research, newsletters and online. SPJ members and non-members alike are welcome to enter, but we’re always proud of members who are honored with an SDX Award.

As you consider entering your own 2011 work, you might find inspiration from these 2010 winners who are also SPJ members:

Al Malpa, staff photographer for The Chronicle and member of the Connecticut Pro chapter, won for breaking-news photography at a small-circulation/regional magazine. See his winning photograph: “Extrication”

Boyd Huppert, features reporter at KARE-TV and member of the Minnesota Pro chapter, won for feature reporting at a large-market station, along with team members Jonathan Malat and Bill Middeke. Watch their winning entry: “Land of 10,000 Stories”

Kirsti Marohn, reporter for the St. Cloud Times and member of the Minnesota Pro chapter, won with team member Britt Johnsen for investigative reporting at a small-circulation daily newspaper. Read their winning story: “Gambling on Growth”

The deadline to enter is Thursday, Feb. 9. SPJ members pay $60 per entry; the non-member fee is $100 per entry.
